Welcome to Railway Modelling in and around Moray
EMRC was formed in 1987 and are members of the Association of Model Railway Societies in Scotland (AMRSS). Our stated aim is to promote and encourage general interest in any aspect connected with railways and modelling. EMRC membership numbers have grown steadily over the years and the role is currently 28.
All members can have their own keys if they wish and are free to use club facilities at any time although the usual club night is Thursday. Once a month club business is dealt with, otherwise the rest of the evening is down to those present. Some like to add to one of the club layouts while others just go to gossip, or best of all, to run trains.
A second club night has been added at the request of our new members, so every Tuesday members may come along for training and instruction in modelling techniques. As club layouts reach the stage where they may be termed "finished" and the public have seen them a few times it is time to start a new project. In recent years we have exhibited at various venues in Aberdeen, Elgin, Dingwall, Inverness, Wick, Alness, Aviemore, Portsoy, MacDuff and Nairn.
The club is funded by membership fees, sponsorship and Modelfair which is organised by our club and features exhibits from most modelling societies in this area. It is held every year usually in November at Elgin Town Hall and this website features photographs taken during recent shows in the gallery section. We believe that Modelfair is: The Premier Model Exhibition in the North of Scotland
The Douglas Berry Memorial Quaich Winner 2008
In memory of a long serving member the late Douglas Berry, Elgin Model Railway Club introduced an annual competition for creating small model dioramas. This was held for the first time as part of the 2008 Model Fair which was held in Elgin Town Hall over the last weekend. A total of 5 high quality entries were judged and the overall winner for 2008 was EMRC member Mr Vernon Carey.
